Modeling Relation Paths for Representation Learning of Knowledge Bases
Representation learning of knowledge bases (KBs) aims to embed both entities
and relations into a low-dimensional space. Most existing methods only consider
direct relations in representation learning. We argue that multiple-step
relation paths also contain rich inference patterns between entities, and
propose a path-based representation learning model. This model considers
relation paths as translations between entities for representation learning,
and addresses two key challenges: (1) Since not all relation paths are
reliable, we design a path-constraint resource allocation algorithm to measure
the reliability of relation paths. (2) We represent relation paths via semantic
composition of relation embeddings. Experimental results on real-world datasets
show that, as compared with baselines, our model achieves significant and
consistent improvements on knowledge base completion and relation extraction

Bethanechol versus selegiline in amelioration of spinal cord injury in a rat model: A potential therapeutic option in spinal cord injury treatment
Purpose: To compare the effect of bethanechol versus selegiline in ameliorating spinal cord injury (SCI) in a rat model. Methods: Male adult Wistar rats (200 – 250 g) were equally divided into 3 groups: test (SCI rats treated with bethanechol), and control reference (SCI rats treated with selegiline) and control (SCI rats treated with vehicle). SCI was induced in the rats using the clipping method. Thereafter, motor function was assessed in the rats using a rotarod. Each rat was sacrificed by decapitation, and the cortex was excised for use in the study of the involvement of cholinergic and monoaminergic transmission in SCI rats using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blot analysis. Results: Retention time was numerically greater in rats treated with acetyl choline agonist at all rotations (10, 15 and 25 rpm) when compared to MAO A inhibitor group, but the difference was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Both bethanechol and selegiline improved motor function by increasing cholinergic and monoaminergic transmission. Both drugs (bethanechol and selegiline) were effective in ameliorating the motor function deficit caused by spinal cord injury. A significant upregulation in acetylcholine esterase (AChE) was observed in the cortex of the SCI rats, relative to non-SCI rats (p < 0.005). Results from cholinergic receptor binding studies revealed significantly decreased Bmax and kd values for muscarinic receptors in SCI rats, when compared to non-SCI rats. Moreover, the reduction in the intensity of cholinergic receptors was significantly higher in the cerebral cortex of SCI rats than in non-SCI rats. Conclusion: Bethanechol and selegiline are effective in ameliorating motor function deficit caused by spinal cord injury in rats. Both drugs also improve motor function in SCI rats. Therefore, the drugs have potentials for use in the therapeutical management of spinal cord injury.

The Beixin Culture archaeobotanical evidence from Guanqiaocunnan indicates a population dispersal of hunter-gatherercultivators into and across the Haida region of northern China
The Beixin Culture appears within the hilly southwestern area of the Haidai region of northern China at ca. 5000 BC, and spreads to its north and northeast flood plains in the following millennium, replacing the Houli Culture. Does the Beixin Culture represent a further example of recently established farmers dispersing into a new territory, in this case being dependent on millet farming and coming from the Huai River Valley? We test this hypothesis by analysing and interpreting the archaeobotanical remains from Guanqiaocunnan, 4340-3970 BC. We conclude that the Beixin Culture represents the dispersal of hunter-gatherers/cultivators rather than farmers
1-{(1Z)-1-[3-(2,4-Dichlorophenoxy)propoxy]-1-(2,4-difluorophenyl)prop-1-en-2-yl}-1H-1,2,4-triazole
In the title compound, C20H17Cl2F2N3O2, the triazole ring makes dihedral angles of 28.0 (3) and 72.5 (2)° with the 2,4-dichloropheny and 2,4-difluorophenyl rings, respectively, and the molecule adopts a Z-conformation about the C=C double bond. In the crystal, C—H⋯O and C—H⋯N hydrogen bonds link the molecules
Observation of spin-orbit magnetoresistance in metallic thin films on magnetic insulators
A magnetoresistance effect induced by the Rashba spin-orbit interaction was
predicted, but not yet observed, in bilayers consisting of normal metal and
ferromagnetic insulator. Here, we present an experimental observation of this
new type of spin-orbit magnetoresistance (SOMR) effect in a bilayer structure
Cu[Pt]/Y3Fe5O12 (YIG), where the Cu/YIG interface is decorated with nanosize Pt
islands. This new MR is apparently not caused by the bulk spin-orbit
interaction because of the negligible spin-orbit interaction in Cu and the
discontinuity of the Pt islands. This SOMR disappears when the Pt islands are
absent or located away from the Cu/YIG interface, therefore we can
unambiguously ascribe it to the Rashba spin-orbit interaction at the interface
enhanced by the Pt decoration. The numerical Boltzmann simulations are
consistent with the experimental SOMR results in the angular dependence of
magnetic field and the Cu thickness dependence. Our finding demonstrates the
realization of the spin manipulation by interface engineering.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, 14 pages in supplementary. To appear on Science

A Modified Brain MR Image Segmentation and Bias Field Estimation Model Based on Local and Global Information
Because of the poor radio frequency coil uniformity and gradient-driven eddy currents, there is much noise and intensity inhomogeneity (bias) in brain magnetic resonance (MR) image, and it severely affects the segmentation accuracy. Better segmentation results are difficult to achieve by traditional methods; therefore, in this paper, a modified brain MR image segmentation and bias field estimation model based on local and global information is proposed. We first construct local constraints including image neighborhood information in Gaussian kernel mapping space, and then the complete regularization is established by introducing nonlocal spatial information of MR image. The weighting between local and global information is automatically adjusted according to image local information. At the same time, bias field information is coupled with the model, and it makes the model reduce noise interference but also can effectively estimate the bias field information. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has strong robustness to noise and bias field is well corrected
Study on Influencing Factors of Carbon Emissions from Energy Consumption of Shandong Province of China from 1995 to 2012
Carbon emissions from energy consumption of Shandong province from 1995 to 2012 are calculated. Three zero-residual decomposition models (LMDI, MRCI and Shapley value models) are introduced for decomposing carbon emissions. Based on the results, Kendall coordination coefficient method is employed for testing their compatibility, and an optimal weighted combination decomposition model is constructed for improving the objectivity of decomposition. STIRPAT model is applied to evaluate the impact of each factor on carbon emissions. The results show that, using 1995 as the base year, the cumulative effects of population, per capita GDP, energy consumption intensity, and energy consumption structure of Shandong province in 2012 are positive, while the cumulative effect of industrial structure is negative. Per capita GDP is the largest driver of the increasing carbon emissions and has a great impact on carbon emissions; energy consumption intensity is a weak driver and has certain impact on carbon emissions; population plays a weak driving role, but it has the most significant impact on carbon emissions; energy consumption structure is a weak driver of the increasing carbon emissions and has a weak impact on carbon emissions; industrial structure has played a weak inhibitory role, and its impact on carbon emissions is great
SenseBack - An implantable system for bidirectional neural interfacing
Chronic in-vivo neurophysiology experiments require highly miniaturized, remotely powered multi-channel neural interfaces which are currently lacking in power or flexibility post implantation. In this article, to resolve this problem we present the SenseBack system, a post-implantation reprogrammable wireless 32-channel bidirectional neural interfacing that can enable chronic peripheral electrophysiology experiments in freely behaving small animals. The large number of channels for a peripheral neural interface, coupled with fully implantable hardware and complete software flexibility enable complex in-vivo studies where the system can adapt to evolving study needs as they arise. In complementary ex-vivo and in-vivo preparations, we demonstrate that this system can record neural signals and perform high-voltage, bipolar stimulation on any channel. In addition, we demonstrate transcutaneous power delivery and Bluetooth 5 data communication with a PC. The SenseBack system is capable of stimulation on any channel with ±20 V of compliance and up to 315 μA of current, and highly configurable recording with per-channel adjustable gain and filtering with 8 sets of 10-bit ADCs to sample data at 20 kHz for each channel. To the best of our knowledge this is the first such implantable research platform offering this level of performance and flexibility post-implantation (including complete reprogramming even after encapsulation) for small animal electrophysiology. Here we present initial acute trials, demonstrations and progress towards a system that we expect to enable a wide range of electrophysiology experiments in freely behaving animals
Pregnane X receptor is required for interleukin-6-mediated down-regulation of cytochrome P450 3A4 in human hepatocytes
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) is the most abundant cytochrome P450 enzyme in human liver and metabolizes more than 60% of prescribed drugs in human body. Patients with liver conditions such as cirrhosis show increased secretion of cytokines (e.g., interleukin-6) and decreased capacity of oxidation of many drugs. In this study, we provided molecular evidence that cytokine secretion directly contributed to the decreased capacity of oxidative biotransformation in human liver. After human hepatocytes were treated with IL-6, the expression of CYP3A4 decreased at both mRNA and protein levels, so did the CYP3A4 enzymatic activity. Meanwhile, the repression of CYP3A4 by IL-6 occurred after the decrease of pregnane X receptor (PXR) in human hepatocytes. The PXR-overexpressed cells (transfected with human PXR) increased the CYP3A4 mRNA level, and the repression of CYP3A4 by IL-6 was greater in the PXR-overexpressed cells than in the control cells. Further, PXR knockdown (transfected with siPXR construct) decreased the CYP3A4 mRNA level with less repression by IL-6 than in the control cells transfected with corresponding vector. Collectively, our study suggests that PXR is necessary for IL-6-mediated repression of the CYP3A4 expression in human hepatocytes
